Rockhill Furnace Work Session Agenda - January 14th & 15th, 2012
The first FEBT Rockhill work session of 2012 takes place Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15.
We will work from 9 am to 4 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.
Meals
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available at Iron Rail B&B., on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Please RSVP directly to the Brightbills at the Iron Rail.
Weather
The weekend should be cloudy with highs in the 30s – not bad for this time of year! Visit accuweather.com and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest weather.
February
Remember, there will be a February work session after all, the weekend of February 18-19.
Blacksmith Shop Repairs
The big news this session is over in the blacksmith shop. The Boilerhouse Rats have devised some temporary repairs that will help to stabilize the building pending the completion of fundraising for a permanent fix. Mr. Kovalchick has given the project his enthusiastic blessing and is paying for the necessary materials. The Rats will probably need some additional help on this project (a mix of machining, carpentry and heavy lifting), so they will welcome temporary rats to help out. Jim Bacon will lead this crew.
Combine 14
Meanwhile, on the combine the crew will be working this winter on the roof, the mahogany side plates, the plywood stiffeners and the end bracing. That means there are plenty of places to work without getting in each others' way, so we can also use visiting carpenters. Bring general carpentry tools. Sanders, routers and jigsaws are also handy. Lee Rainey will lead this project.
And more...
Although I don't have details, I expect the Glass Rattlers will continue work around the Locomotive Shop, or help out with one of the carpentry projects, under the leadership of Bill Adams. The Steel Crew will either continue their usual variety of jobs, involving roofs, the tipple, trucks, and the combine end railings, or help out with one of the carpentry projects. Steve Jacobs normally leads the Steel Crew.
Ground Rules
To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.
Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an e-mail in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.
See you there!
