The next FEBT Rockhill work session will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28, 2009.

WWe will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.

Meals

Breakfast both days and dinner will be available at the Iron Rail B&B, across the street from the depot. Lunch will be offered by Rockhill Trolley Museum on Sunday only. Please e-mail me by Thursday evening, June 25, at 10 p.m. if you plan to join us for any of these meals.

Weather

The current forecast is for clouds and sunshine with highs in the low 80s. Visit accuweather.com and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest weather as we approach the date.

Combine 14

The car crew will continue inletting the side sills for the new spliced replacement timbers. We will also begin installation of the replacement timbers under the west main baggage door. The steel crew will be working on the trucks and draft gear. Additional cleaning of the north truck is required to further inspect the wood's condition. If the cross beams are determined to be in good condition, they will coat them in linseed oil for protection. They plan to continue the south end draft gear inspection and tightening. Once complete, they can then treat the wood to a coating of linseed oil for protection. Additional parts may start to be fitted up to the bumper. Steve Jacobs and Lee Rainey will lead this project.

Roofs

The south boiler shop/loco shop roof valley will be repaired and coated for the third time if and when weather/temperature permit. Also we will continue tar application to the front machine shop roof when conditions permit. Steve Jacobs will lead this project.

Combine #16 trucks work
At the end of March, a special crew met at the Strasburg Railroad shops to disassemble the last remaining Tweensie #5 coach truck which is being used as a pattern for out reproduction combine #16 trucks.

Boilerhouse

the Biolerhouse Rats will continue on the roof structure and the reactivation of the stationary steam engine. Jim Bacon will lead this project. Remember their motto: anything smaller than a 4x4 is just trim.

Main Shops

The Glass Rattlers will continue window and structural repairs on the Car Shop and Boiler Shop. Carpenter tools are the order of the day for this job. Chris Coleman will lead this project.

FEBT Speeder

Once the proper color paint is identified the windscreen of the speeder can be painted before the repaired engine returns. This windscreen was sanded to remove the flaking paint and primed during the work week. Steve Jacobs will lead this project.

Garage

This project is finished!

Ground Rules

To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.

Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an e-mail in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.

See you there!
Lee
