Rockhill Furnace Work Session Agenda - June 5th & 6th, 2010
The next FEBT Rockhill work session of 2010 will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 5-6, 2010.
We will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am.
Special Events
Check www.ebtrr.com/openingweekend2010.php for a line-up of the special events of the weekend, including the anniversary ceremony, special trains, the dinner train and more.
Meals
Breakfast on Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday will be available at the Iron Rail B&B, across the street from the depot. No meals will be offered by RTY this session. Please RSVP directly to the Brightbills at the Iron Rail if you plan to eat any of these meals. There will be food vendors and the dinner train on Saturday for the other meals.
Weather
It looks like we’ll be around 80 degrees this weekend, with possible thunderstorms! Visit accuweather.com www.accuweather.com and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest weather.
Combine 14
We will continue the repairs to the east side sill, and begin work on the southwest corner. If time permits, we’ll also begin fabricating new side studs to replace damaged one. General carpenter tools and small power tools are handy for this work. Lee Rainey will lead this project.
Boilerhouse
The Boilerhouse Rats will tear off the north roof section, and, with good weather and some luck, perhaps get it to the same point as the west section is now. Heavy-duty hand power tools are useful on this crew. Jim Bacon is the crew leader in the boilerhouse.
Main Shops
The Glass Rattlers continue their structural repairs on the Locomotive Shop west wall. As crew leader Chris Coleman puts it, "In order to fix the windows, we first need to have a solid wall in which to mount them." Bill Adams and Chris Coleman lead this project.
Steel Crew
These folks are pushing ahead on a variety of projects related to the coal tipple, the Combine 14 trucks, the Combine 16 trucks, and the Combine 14 end platforms. Steve Jacobs leads this crew.
Ground Rules
To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.
Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an e-mail in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.
See you there!
