Agenda for the Rockhill Furnace Work Session - April 21 and 22, 2018.

The next FEBT Rockhill work session of the 2018 season will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 21 and 22, 2018.

We will work 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and 9 am to 4 pm Sunday.

The current forecast for the weekend calls mid 50s with sun and clouds. We watch the weather closely for these sessions, and the session is subject to cancellation if, by Thursday, the forecast for either day has changed to ice, snow, or extreme cold.

Local Restaurants are available in Orbisonia.

Boilerhouse Rats

For next weekend, the Rats will continue the work to finish the west side of the freight house, repair the west door frame, and finish installing the interior bracing. This will put them in position to jack the entire building up 12-18" at the May session, so that installation of the new piers can begin in June. Depending on available person-power, a crew may also trial-fit, and trim if needed, the new window sashes for the blacksmith shop. Jim Bacon will lead this project.

Combine 14

The combine crew will be stripping internal paint, and prepping the window posts for the installation of stiffeners. Work will continue on the west side of the roof. Glass will be prepared for the side windows. And if enough hands are available, we will also be cutting and fitting clerestory components in preparation for final installation once the clerestory windows are glazed. Lee Rainey and Charlie Wootton will lead this project.

Steel Crew

This crew will be working on the box car and passenger trucks, and in the lumber shed, as the weather allows. Steve Jacobs leads the Steel Crew.

Ground Rules

To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly.

Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an e-mail in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning.

See you there!
