AN INVITATION TO ASSIST

The Friends of the East Broad Top, Inc. needs your help to continue our preservation and restoration efforts. The East Broad Top Railroad is a unique treasure. Quite rightly, this priceless historic resource, located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, has been designated a U. S. National Historic Landmark.

AN INVITATION TO JOIN

We welcome all who share our enthusiasm for the East Broad Top Railroad. Our membership is nationwide and international. We invite you to join us by printing out and mailing a completed membership application linked to this page. Benefits of FEBT membership include a subscription to our award-winning quarterly magazine, the Timber Transfer, periodic newsletters, and the opportunity to engage in hands-on restoration work. (A brief description of membership classifications and benefits can be found below.) By joining FEBT, you will also share in these advantages of membership:

We actively encourage the continuing dialog within the community of government, industry, public, and private groups interested in protecting, preserving, and restoring the East Broad Top Railroad.

Our magazine, the Timber Transfer, provides a lively forum for articles and information concerning the history, modeling, preservation, and restoration of the EBT. Many drawings and photos in the Timber Transfer are published there for the first time!

Our C.R. Wilburn Library contains a growing archive of EBT historical material. Our museum collection is starting to accumulate important historic artifacts related to the EBT.

Our Company Store Plan Service provides copies of drawings in the possession of FEBT or contributed by our members. The FEBT Kit Program develops and produces kits and lettering for EBT rolling stock in popular modeling scales. FEBT also cooperates with model railroad manufacturers to promote production of heretofore unavailable models and modeling supplies for EBT prototypes.

Commercial/Institutional Memberships, Annual dues: $100.00
Businesses and other organizations who share our goals and interests provide significant additional financial support for the operations of Friends of the East Broad Top as commercial/institutional members; they receive all issues of the Timber Transfer and newsletters published during the twelve-month membership period PLUS annual recognition in the Timber Transfer and/or annual report.

Reciprocal Membership Historical organizations, museums, and other organizations who share our goals and interests may receive the benefits of Commercial/Institutional Membership on an exchange basis as reciprocal members. No payment; formal approval by the board of directors of Friends of the East Broad Top required.

Surcharge for Foreign Members

To help defray costs of postage, members with mailing addresses outside the United States holding Regular, Family, or Student/Senior Memberships must include an additional payment of $5.00 with each annual membership payment. Thus for these members, the effective annual dues for Regular, Family, and Student/Senior Membership are respectively $35.00, $40.00, and $30.00.

Membership Year

The membership year for all members is determined by the calendar quarter in which initial dues payments were received, following the policy adopted by the board of directors on 7 December 1996. These memberships extend through the end of the same calendar quarter of the following year as the quarter in which the initial dues were paid. That is, the membership year of a member who joins Friends of the East Broad Top in January, February, or March will end on 31 March of the following year; the membership year of a member who joins in April, May, or June will end on 30 June of the following year; the membership year of a member who joins in July, August, or September will end on 30 September of the following year; and the membership year of a member who joins in October, November, or December will end on 31 December of the following year. Continuously renewed memberships will maintain this pattern.

Membership Year and FEBT Publications

Regardless of when a FEBT member's membership year starts and ends, he or she will receive all issues of the Timber Transfer, all newsletters, and any other mailings issued during the twelve-month period of membership.

Complimentary Mailings

Individuals and organizations who receive Friends of the East Broad Top publications and other mailings on a complimentary basis are not members of Friends of the East Broad Top, and thus these individuals and organizations do not qualify for any membership-based perquisites. Organizations with whom cooperative promotion agreements are in effect receive FEBT publications and other mailings on a complimentary basis but do not qualify for any membership-based perquisites.
